Caregiver Burnout Series: Make Use of Nonprofit--or Insurance--Funded Resources
While we wait for the government and employer sectors to catch up with caregiving needs, there are many resources available through non-profit agencies. Your insurance policy can also provide coverage for some services.
Most states have an Area Agency on Aging offices through the Department of Health and Human Services. www.hhs.gov. Ten states have separate Departments on Aging as well. C. Grace Whiting, of the National Alliance for Caregiving, suggests Tailored Care. Tailored Care is an intervention for caregivers specifically aimed at helping avoid burnout. This may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, or employee benefits. Other resources include:
Atlas of Care: https://atlasofcaregiving.com/
Eldercare Locator: https://eldercare.acl.gov/Public/Index.aspx
Caregiver Action Network: https://www.caregiveraction.org/
ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center: https://archrespite.org/
